about
Cat Black (Ghost Guilt shouts and keys)
Christmas at the end of 2016 I found myself regressing into a nasty depression with anxiety & obsessive thoughts. I was devastated after a relatively successful recovery through CBT for some very deep rooted depression/anxiety a few years previous. I thought I would try to deal with it in some sort of positive way and decided I would try to write everything down or document the things/events that had lead up to the point where I sought professional help.
We have lived in Durham for a long time (my partner Jonny and I) and for the last few years have been friends with the bands here (Martha, pale kids ONSIND etc) and I guess going to all the shows and being inspired by all the amazing women in bands that I saw made me want to try to do that as well, like at least once!
I asked Jonny if he would help me write some songs as he had played bass in bands before and everything just fell out. A chance meeting with our old friend from roller derby Ella led to an introduction to her girlfriend Ellie who had just started playing drums again after a long break and Ghost Guilt was born. We played our first show at our amazing local venue Empty Shop as a 3 piece, Ellie’s first band, my first time and Jonny had never played guitar in a band before but it worked out great!
The final piece clicked into place when Stevo (Andrew Stephenson T Shirt Weather/Pale Kids) joined on bass.
The EP is 4 songs taken from our first recording session with Neil Combstock at Rocking Horse Studios in Durham.
Ghost Guilt has been such a positive place for me, I never thought I would have the courage to stand up and scream everything out in front of people!
